We are pleased to announce Gilbert High School’s 2026 Poet Laureate, Chloe Weibelt!
But what exactly does the Poet Laureate do? One may ask.
The Poet Laureate serves as the official poet of Gilbert High School. During their term, the Poet Laureate seeks to raise the school-wide consciousness of the Gilbert Story through writing and the arts.
This position requires participation in creative publication projects. For example, the Poet Laureate is responsible for writing poems for the Hearts and Souls quarterly and the Gladiator Times news website. They also work closely with clubs within the school, building a presence of leadership and collaboration.
The process for becoming a Poet Laureate involves applying online, and submitting original poetry.
The significance of having a Poet Laureate in our school is quite unique to the personality and identity of Gilbert High School due to Gilbert’s focus on the arts. Not many schools have a position for a poet laureate which adds to Gilbert’s uniqueness.
As Chloe Renee Weibelt said, “Don’t be afraid to express yourself the way you want to, not how you are told to.”
