Hello, I am J.R., and I will be talking about the time one of my neighbors crashed into my front yard and woke me and my family up from our sleep. People should take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences they cause. It was a cold and early morning at 5:00 AM I was still asleep after school when I woke up to use the bathroom and grab a light snack. I forget if it was crackers or a bottle of water, but I sat down in the living room petting my cats and eating my snack before breakfast.
Suddenly, I felt the house shake and vibrate heavily. I didn’t think much of it at first since my cats didn’t react, so I thought it was just another earthquake. However, I soon heard beeping, and my mom came out of her room awake to ask about the noise. This was a surprise, to say the least, since my mom is a heavy sleeper and doesn’t usually wake up for earthquakes. I knew something was up the moment she stepped out. Soon after, the rest of my family members started to wake up and look around.
When I went outside to the front, I saw a car flipped over with its lights still on. While I took a moment to take it in, I saw a man push the door open and run out, leaving in a flash and leaving blood behind. I snapped back to reality and recorded a photo of what had happened to show the police and my school, as the wreck was blocking our yard. The police asked every member of my family for information while they cleared the area and collected blood samples in a vial to run through the system. I noticed the flashing lights and the placement of the car, eventually realizing it had landed right where our plant used to be. A few days later, once the car was towed, I saw the plant was just a splat the branches and fruit were crushed beyond saving, and millions of wooden shards from our fence were scattered everywhere.
I’m actually glad we had that ugly, unfinished wooden gate; if it wasn’t there, the car likely would have kept sliding into the side of the house, causing much more harm. Even when the crash was fresh, I could smell the wood and gas leaking from the tank. It made me uneasy and afraid that a spark might hit the wooden splinters and cause a fire. Luckily, that didn’t happen, but we had to spend a long time cleaning everything up. We even had to replace the dirt with fresh soil from the store because the gas had soaked in, leaving the ground even more dead than it already was.
If I were to view this in any way, I’d find this as a sign to own up to your mistakes and not follow through with wild ideas without thinking them through while having a clear mind. This impacted my world and how I view driving and crashes. Now, I’m a little afraid of the idea of crashing into someone else’s lawn. Would they have to experience the same thing I did, or even worse? This experience taught me that our actions have a lasting footprint on the lives of those around us.
conclusion moment of wisdom- Dont run away from the scene of a crime.
