Construction on Gilbert High School has begun. Loud noises and construction crew members are expected to be seen more and more often as you enter the school. Some classrooms have already begun to experience the effects, with some having to close their doors the entire time to keep out the noise. The path that used to allow students to walk to their classes has now been covered by the construction fence as the workers continue their progress.
As journalists continue to share stories with the public, we are at the heart of the noise from the construction crews. Interestingly, the noise seemed to die down about 1–3 days into the project, and classes have thankfully been quiet again.
Impact on Staff and Parking
During this construction, some of the school staff and teachers have had to park in different areas than they are used to, mostly in the west parking lot. Teachers have been a little bit of a “show” lately to the admins; teachers have been getting stared down by admins lately due to this. In other news, the quicker this construction finishes, the better it will be for the teachers and staff.
Insights from Mr. Pobst
By emailing teachers and staff, I’ve gathered more information regarding the work at Gilbert. Apparently, the idea for this project has been talked about before. A talk with Mr. Pobst shows it was discussed a lot, but he along with a few other teachers and staff didn’t think it would actually happen. He is actually rather excited about the construction and hopes to see what will come of it.
This doesn’t just affect teachers and staff, though it also includes students. Those who used to walk to their classes now find that the shorter, quicker path is closed, forcing them to take a longer and more time consuming route.
From talking around and gathering information from teachers and staff, it seems the construction will unfortunately last until the end of 2026. Some classes are even suffering from the physical effects of the work, as certain areas shake and vibrate. If you are unlucky enough to be in a classroom right next to the site, like Mr. Glen’s room, your things are likely to fall onto the floor and cause problems not to mention the ongoing issues with the parking spaces.
