The Music Studio at Gilbert High School is a place where students are thriving. The studio helps students find their voice, and the creative place to develop it. With support from arts assistants (Joseph and Moses Franco, Antony Attalla, and Marlena Khramov) students write and record their own songs.
Students feel safe in the studio, build community, and find it to be a great source of inspiration to learn about careers in music. Students learn song structure like instrumentation, time, tempo, and have already produced their first studio master recording, a five song EP entitled Christmas at Gilbert.
The club also established their online digital platform to host future recordings. Students formed a music appreciation class and club with teacher Ms. Frese, who stated the music studio was founded and named by students. The studio moniker is Club 33 1/3 with the inclusive motto: Where Every Soul Finds a Sound.
Student, Athan Smith (17) participated in the first recording sessions. The guitarist stated,
“I’ve never seen anything like this at other schools.” He added that the music studio has helped him. He doesn’t have a place to go after school, and the studio has been a good place for him to hang out and to play instruments.
