On Tuesday, 22 students and 3 staff members went to the Laguna Art Museum (LAM) in Laguna Beach. A tour guide greeted the group and guided everyone through the exhibits in the museum showing the many different types of art and explaining them. These included landscapes, portraits, still life, and abstract arts. Most of the works were part of a collection by artist Conrad Buff.
At the end of the tour, Gladiators enjoyed the opportunity to make their own landscape art pieces. They were provided different materials which included magazines, scissions, colored pencils, glue, and canvases to make multi media creations. After 45 minutes of creating art, students wrote stories describing their art pieces.
Lunch consisted of delicious pizza from Gino’s that teachers highly suggested as well as the school lunches, in front of a nice view from the cliffs in front of the beach. Afterward, some student’s played basketball and some others walked along the seashore while enjoying the scenery, and finally ending the day with a group photo by the life guard tower on Main Beach.
Art isn’t just some paintings on a wall hung up at museums. It’s a way to express your feelings, by creating something your way. People forget that not everything needs to be perfect for other people, but rather it is for yourself. That’s what makes art truly valuable to each person. One can draw, paint, glue and much more, on a piece of paper or canvas to express their emotions. One can describe how they feel or imagine on a daily basis, and the best part is if you really connect with the work you are able to end up in a museum while explaining your thought process behind your work.
Overall, this was a very worth while field trip that students and staff will hold in high esteem for all time.
