On Monday, March 2nd the Music Club along with adviser Ms. Frese and arts assistants visited the Grammy Museum in L.A. The Museum was filled with a combination of historic and famous pieces of art such as photography, paintings, artists, musical performance wardrobes, the evolution of music, the Grammy award itself, and the showcases of various artists who have been awarded a Grammy award. The exhibitions featured descriptions of items on display and who each belonged to.
The multi-level building serves as both a medium of remembrance for artists who have passed and a tribute to living artists and their contributions. For example, the museum features various important and historical pieces of Michael Jackson’s first “Victory” tour, the gloves that were designed for him, but never worn, and jackets for his time of receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
They have multiple instruments that broke the music instrument scene such as the “tri cone” guitar, and the history of instruments and which music movements they helped make a breakthrough in. They are also currently featuring a temporary “pop up” Selena Quintanilla-Perez exhibit which features highlights from her history with family, instruments she used in performances, costumes she made, and her most successful visual moments.
Students enjoyed the day, capped by lunch in the L.A. Live area. One of our very own Music Appreciation students, whose name is in fact Salena, stated she enjoyed the field trip. She described her highlights as being able to engage in the interactive exhibits, and seeing the many artists’ stories. She was impressed by how many artists were featured.
