Gilbert High School Is Hosting Gilbert Talks - A Soap Box Speech Event March 2nd

Joshua Perea-Diaz, Staff Writer

You have probably been wondering why we have been spending so much time in our Power Up lessons focusing on Mental Health. Our school is in the middle of an application to become a Democracy School. The mental health journey requires our participation in a school-wide event.

On March 2nd, you could participate in the Gilbert Talks Soapbox Speech competition. Speak your mind!

The soap box competition, is scheduled for March 2nd. The competition will be held in the MPR (Multi Purpose Room) and students will be speaking on issues that matter in their communities, both personally and on those which they have observed others go through.

The hope is that each 3rd period class will host its own Soapbox speech competition and choose ONE representative to participate in the school event on March 2nd. This could be YOU!

Just last year, our very own Karma Warne took first place in our Gilbert Talks site event, and placed 4th in the District Wide Soapbox competition.

Karma wrote a speech about the importance of Mental Health. You may recognize Karma from our Power Up video lesson.

Raise awareness for an issue you think does not receive the coverage it needs, through your words. We hope to see you there.
