Gladiator of the Month

Each month Gilbert teachers have the serious duty of choosing what student they want to nominate for Gladiator of the month. Students are chosen based off of work ethic, attendance, school and class participation, improvement, and dedication to their education. Thirty five students are nominated each month and two students are chosen to be Gladiator of the month.

As of this school year thirteen students have been chosen to be Gladiator of the month, including Sam  Alvarez, Kimberlin Miranda, Zabella Ortuna, Nathanael Conrique, Yesica Ruelas Salcedo, Cristal Chihuaque, Destiny Silva, Andrew Black, Lesley Serafin, Natalie Mendoza, Kevin Ramos Rubio, Jesus Cisneros, and Candy Noveron. Being recognized as the top student of the month is not only a very good way to show students that their hard work will be recognized, but also gives a definitive recognition for Gladiator of the month to sight on things such as school or job applications. Due to the amount of students nominated not all deserving students are able to be named Gladiator of the month, in fact many student are nominated multiple times by multiple teachers, such as Irving Carreon, Stephany Diaz, Jacob Reagan, Justin Uolla, Brandon L Williams, Hannia Rubio, and Angelica Ramirez.

While many students deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication to improvement, we aren’t able to recognize every one. Instead of considering it a competition we should consider it an opportunity to recognize and congratulate the success and hard work of a peer. In creating an environment in which students support and learn from each other instead of considering such recognition of a peer as a criticism about their own work as a student, it creates a healthier and more effective learning and work environment.
