Pride in Blood

Justin Ulloa, Staff Writer

People are a bit squeamish when it comes to donating blood, because the idea that a tube is running into your body taking out the red elixir that you need to stay alive, makes people uneasy, well also myself. A brief history on why we chose to donate blood to City of Hope was because in 2009, one of our own ASB Gilbert Students was a patient at City of Hope and they saved her life, ever since then we switched over from being with the Red Cross to being blood collection partners with the City of Hope. On 1/29/19, ASB hosted a blood drive, it was held in the school cafeteria. Thanks to the help of Gilbert students & ASB for organizing the event, we got 68 donors & 53 units of blood. That’s a lot of blood. After, the donors had a smile on their face once they were done donating, like if they were proud, feeling accomplished. Hopefully students will donate more & more or hopefully encourage other to do it as well.  Furthermore, students were done donating blood, they were given snacks, a bunch of snacks that they can choose from, and a beverage if so desired. The donors were well taken care of, thanks to ASB & everybody who donated.
