Congratulations, Gilbert teachers, staff, and students. I am very pleased to announce that our very own Gilbert High School is now, officially, a California Democracy School. The visiting site committee enthusiastically approved our designation as a CA Democracy school on Thursday, March 23rd.

The committee was extremely impressed with our use of power lessons, and power up time in order to build a system in which our students have the opportunity to participate in our school wide civic engagement project. They were also impressed by our student speakers, our teachers, our leadership teams and community partners who met with them to discuss ways we heighten our student voice and purpose.

Our student ambassador Michael Flores will represent Gilbert HS at the 2023 CA Civic Learning Student Showcase and Award Ceremony on May 6th, 2023 to be held at the Richard Nixon President Library, Museum, and Birthplace. All are invited to attend.

Shout out to our Civic Engagement Team’s hard work, and to all the teachers, instructional assistants, counselors, and support staff who continue to help ensure student voice and purpose is centered in everything we do.
