Public Bus Schedule Conflicts With School Bell Schedule

Public Bus Schedule Conflicts With School Bell Schedule

Emily Negrete, Staff Writer

After students are dismissed here at Gilbert High School, they are seen running to catch the public bus. Most students here at Gilbert High School use the public bus to get to school and also use it to get home after school. Many miss the bus and are often seen waiting for the next bus to return about an hour later or sometimes even longer. Student are asking their fifth period teachers if they can leave a couple minutes early so, they are able to catch the bus when it gets to the bus stop. Many students have been heard in the halls talking about the bus and how they have to wait because they didn’t have enough time to get there.

Students here at Gilbert High School get dismissed at 2:22 pm and the public bus arrives at  the bus stop at 2:21 pm and it promptly  departs the bus stop at around 2:22 pm to 2:24 pm

Students would have to be dismissed about five to ten minutes earlier if they want to be able catch the public bus to get home. Some options that we have are, we can go to the school district and inform then about the situation and see if they would be able to change the bell schedule so that students that take the bus are able to have enough time to get to the bus stop. We can also go to the county and speak with them about the bus times and see if there is any possible chance, they would be able to change the bus schedule by just a couple of minutes so that student would be able to take the bus home.

Until any changes are made, this bus situation continues to make life very challenging for many students whose lives are already impacted. This seems unfair and unnecessary in the wake of an already difficult two years.
