I love skating because it’s like an escape, it always gets me through the hardest times in my life. Unlike playing most sports, with skating, you get to do everything on your own time. You can take it at your own pace, you don’t need to be on time for practice or anything, so that’s something you never have to stress about. It teaches patience and dedication. When there’s a trick I want to learn, i put so much time and effort into it until I can actually master that trick. I was always interested in skateboarding since I was a young child, tv shows, video games, and even those tech deck toys. Funnily enough, I still collect and play with them often as many skaters do. Those were the main factors that really made me want to get up and start skateboarding in real life.
My older sister gifted me a skateboard when I turned 11, it wasn’t the best but it definitely got me started It broke after a short while but ever since then I’ve always skated other people’s boards until I was able to get my own. I finally got my own around the age 14 and I was able to really take it serious from then. I’ve made so much improvement throughout my years of experience. As I’ve gotten older it’s become easier for me to get my hands on better materials such as shoes and skateboard parts. I have a lot of connections through all the people i met along the way. My dream is to become a professional, as far away as it seems, I won’t give up. -Roger Negrette
