Last week was the week for Gilbert students to vote for our ASB (Associated Student Body) cabinet and their positions, which consisted of ASB President, ASB Vice President, Activities Commissioner, and Inter-Club Commissioner. We had many candidates participate in the running. The students were sent an email and during a Power Up lesson students were encouraged to voice their opinions by voting. The election ballot asked voters to choose the new ASB cabinet. The candidates running were Julia Van Dyke, James Van Dyke, Jodeci Dunn, Faith Greenwood and Xiomara Tagle. The candidates running were in a tizzy of emotions when it was time for their peers to vote for who would hold what title.
James was kind enough to give a few words and a quote. James said, “You don’t have to vote, but if you feel like it, and you vote for me, I’m here with open arms.”
When asked to describe himself, he said, “I would probably say cool and funny.”
We couldn’t disagree with his statement nor the others when they were asked. The other candidates were asked to describe themselves as well and they had some similar answers.
Jodeci said, ” I would say nice and respectful.”
Faith stated, “Maybe quiet and honest.”
Julia, when asked, was a little giggly, “I don’t know, um, maybe responsible and quiet as well.”
The candidates were fun and interesting to talk to, each of them bringing something different to the table. Talking to these individuals was a nice experience and after talking to them for a few seconds we bid them a goodbye and good luck.
Later during the week we were informed of the result of the election. The winners of Gladiator High’s new ASB cabinet (along with their positions) are as listed:
InterClub Commissioner: Xiomara Tagle
