Gilbert emerged victorious in a 3-1 series win, marking their first official win of the season and a massive statement against a respected district rival.
Game 1: Defensive Adjustment Sparks Momentum Shift
The match opened with the Rebels launching an aggressive flurry of attacks, trying to catch the Gladiators off-guard. However, the Gladiators, traditionally the aggressors, made a critical mid-game adjustment to a more defensive strategy.
Nick Estrada, playing a stalwart Magneto, held the front line with confidence, setting the tempo with intense 1v1 clashes against Rebels captain Aaron Zavala. Behind the line, Gabriel Sandoval—Gilbert’s most improved player—played a disruptive role as Hulk and The Thing, constantly pressuring the Rebels’ healers and throwing their rhythm off.
The turning point came when Gilbert’s support duo, Daniel Pacinto (Cloak and Dagger) and Noe Soto (Invisible Woman), executed a clutch save on Captain Josh Marquardt, who turned the tide with an offensive push. Alongside Sal Soria, the pair eliminated the entire Rebels roster, earning Gilbert the first point of the series.
Game 2: Under Pressure, Gladiators Shine
Riding high off their Game 1 success, the Gladiators maintained momentum. Despite facing relentless pressure from the Rebels’ damage dealers, Noe and Daniel held their ground. Often operating with just one healer active, the pair showed poise and executed some of their best play of the season.
The Rebels’ late-game strategy focused on isolating tank Nick Estrada, but the plan fell flat. Nick and Gabriel once again dominated in 1v1 scenarios, rarely needing heals. This resilience allowed Josh and Sal to go on the offensive, shredding the Rebels’ defenses and securing Game 2.
Game 3: Strategic Subs and a Close Loss
Game 3 saw a strategic shake-up as the Gladiators made three key substitutions to throw off the Rebels during the ban phase. Scarlet Macias, Josh Ramirez, and Levi Silva entered the match, resulting in two wasted bans by Savanna on characters no longer in play.
Though the substitutions disrupted the Rebels’ strategy, the less experienced lineup faced some growing pains. Levi, typically a controller user, struggled slightly with keyboard misclicks, creating single-heal situations. However, Levi still showed promise with strong positional play.
Scarlet Macias won several clutch 1v1 battles, notably against the opposing Dr. Strange, but communication lapses allowed the Rebels to steal Game 3. Still, a silver lining emerged: Josh and Sal tested a new combo—Hela and Namor—and displayed instant chemistry.
Game 4: A Statement Win
Re-energized and back with their starting lineup, the Gladiators came into Game 4 looking to close it out—and they did so with authority.
Josh and Sal, utilizing their new Hela/Namor combo, repositioned to the back row with the healers, picking off Rebel supports and damage dealers while simultaneously shielding their own backline. The Rebels simply couldn’t break through.
With Noe and Daniel back in rhythm, and Nick and Gabe once again dominating tank matchups, the Rebels were held back from even reaching neutral map territory. The Gladiators took Game 4 in decisive fashion, sealing the series with a resounding win.
