The Gilbert High School Sports Intervention Program has begun with a season of flag football. The first game will be held Tuesday, September 2nd against La Vista HS. The game will be held at GHS during lunch on the grass field behind room 26.
The Gladiators have been preparing over the past few weeks with practices and drills. Uniforms have been assigned and the team is geared up for the upcoming season.
Teachers, staff and players are asked to follow the protocols to make sure the season flows seamlessly. For practices, with teacher approval, players are excused from class 5 minutes early on a daily basis. On HOME game days, players are excused from class at 11:30 AM. For Away Games – Player dismissal is TBD.
Every player is responsible for maintaining a Growth Check Form. Players are given their Growth Check form on Wednesdays to be submitted Fridays at lunch practice.
Congratulations to all our players who have worked so hard to make the team. The roster includes: Cesar Alcazar, Anthony Alfaro, Ricardo Alvarez, Jose Antonlin Garcia, James Barker, Fernando Barragan, Mateo Caldera, Scarlet Macias, Nathan Marcroft, Matteo Nuno, Daniel Pacindo, Joshua Ramirez and the equipment manager is Suri Delgado.
The coaches of the team include Mrs. Ortega-Gamez, Mr. Oquendo, Ms. Monse, and Mrs. Camarena.
Joshua Ramirez said he is inspired by a message found in the film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” when the main character says, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it.” He realizes he has always been trying to just get through school instead of enjoying it. Flag football has reminded him to embrace the opportunities that are here.
Good luck, Gladiators. Enjoy the glory of the magical moments of this season.
