Saturn’s Rings are one of the most iconic things and most beautiful features in our solar system, the rings are made of billions of particles of ice and rock, they stretch about hundred of thousands miles around Saturn but what many people don’t know is that the most iconic thing is slowly fading away.
For a good amount of time, Astronomers believe that Saturn rings has been around for over billions of years. But recent data from NASA has prove the actual time they’ve been here has been only 100 million years, What are causing the rings too fade is a thing called “ring rain”, What this is Saturn’s gravity is pulling the icy particles from the rings it self and brings them down into the atmosphere. and causes the ice particles to vaporize them. the Saturn’s rings can be gone within 100 – 300 million years which is a short time in the cosmic.
Saturn without its rings would still be a gas giant, but it would look drastically different. If humans are still around in a few hundred million years they may see Saturn will look a lot likeĀ Jupiter. Understanding the life cycle of Saturn’s ringsĀ help the scientists learn how planets from and evolve. It also reminds us of that even the most seemingly permanent features of universes are temporary.
