On February 7, students decided to organize a walkout to protest against immigration policies. Gilbert High School is neighboring Lora High School, and the students at Lora had already started their protest. I wasn’t aware of the walkout until I saw it online on the day it happened. On the day of the protest, many students from Gilbert High heard about what was going on at Lora and decided to join them in solidarity.
The students from both schools walked out of their classrooms with posters and flags, proudly representing their heritage. It was a powerful demonstration of unity and activism among the students. The protest highlighted the importance of standing up for what they believe in, especially regarding issues that affect their communities. Many students shared stories of how immigration policies had personally impacted their families, making the protest even more meaningful.
The walkout became a platform for raising awareness and sparking conversations on such an important topic. In the end, the event showcased the students’ commitment to fighting for justice and equality.
