On February 3rd, there was a strike day across the district and the state. Immigrant students and teachers didn’t show up to work or school to protest, ICE raids. They believed that if President Donald Trump wanted immigrants out of the country, they wanted to show him how much immigrants contribute to this country, and that we wouldn’t be where we are today without their help. Many people didn’t attend school, but I went to see for myself. Every class I entered had fewer than five students. I participated by leaving early that day. The next day, I spoke with one of my teachers, Mrs. Hernandez, about the protest. She said that only about ten students attended through out the day.
Coming from an immigrant family, it’s sad to see because my parents have done nothing wrong. They came here simply to give their children a better life. As a U.S. citizen, I strive to work hard to help my parents. I’ve personally witnessed my parents being looked down upon simply because they are immigrants, which is unfair to people who have done nothing to harm anyone.
