On January 14, 2025, Gilbert High School students and their chaperones were welcomed to attend a field trip that took place at Schools First Federal Credit Union headquarters. The facility is located in Santa Ana.
On this field trip students were able to learn about finances and credit card debt. In addition, they experienced a lesson in economics, specifically how expensive the world really is.
The banking experts invited students to download an app onto their phones in order to play a game. The app allowed students to determine a financial future based on a formula that included a career choice, spouse, child, and housing situation. During the tour, students visited various stations such as child care, housing, utilities, shopping, transportation etc. Once the rotations were complete, there was a question and answer round. Students responded with their understanding of the lesson.
One big lesson was to know how to be smart with your money. Students agreed this was a meaningful experience. Approximately 25 Gilbert students attended and were joined by several other high school groups in our District.
Lunch was served. Students enjoyed pizza, fruit, cookies, snacks and beverages, all provided by the facilitators of the event.
This was a great experience that gave students a real world perspective of their financial future.
