Many students starting at the age of sixteen start to balance going to school in the mornings and having work right after. It can be very tiring and seem overwhelming at times but there are various reasons that students start working while also attending school. He goes over the form with you so you understand everything you need to fill out, and he is there to answer any questions or concerns you have about starting your first job!
Students have a variety of reasons to have to start working, some may have to start working to help support their families financially, to have more of an independence , to keep busy, or to just get some experience for future job positions, and the list can go on. School alone can be very overwhelming so adding a job on top of that can seem like a lot at times, but making sure you have a schedule that works for you helps balance both school and work. Its important to communicate well with your manager and ensure they understand the importance of you attending and doing well in school.
There are a lot of benefits to having your first job , it helps you develop skills such as communicating, team work, professionalism , and time management. I developed better communication skills and learned how to work better with others since the environment I had working was a lot different from school, its a different type of professionalism that you have to have. I feel I am more independent and motivated now since I am working for the things I choose to buy and I also get to help my mom out.
Here at Gilbert High School there are plenty of students who have jobs and have to balance going to school, doing homework, and going to work. It can be stressful. Working students have to wake up early to get to school on time, and right after school we go to work. This requires finding time to do homework and other responsibilities too. That can be draining because some people have to do that everyday on repeat.
Even after having to worry about all that, some students don’t have rides to get to work. No personal transportation makes it even worse for these students. Some students have to either leave school early or don’t show up at all because of work, so that makes them get behind in credits. Many students get in trouble by teachers or parents, but some students need the money to help support their families.
Students start working for a couple of reasons. For this writer, Alexis Diaz, the main reason was that I didn’t like asking for money. I always enjoyed being more independent so my first job was at fourteen, I was working at the fair with my sister on any weekends I could to earn a little extra money for myself and it definitely helped me with my social skills now and how I work with others. If you would like to start looking for a job make sure to pick up a working permit in room thirty-six with Mr Dechene.
