Procrastination at its Finest

Melissa Moreno, Staff Writer

Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something. It’s the act or habit of procrastinating, especially something requiring immediate attention. Why do you think we procrastinate? I think there are many reasons why we procrastinate, but the main reason is because we are LAZY. We make up so many excuses and convince ourselves that we will do it later, but we just wait until the last day to do it.

Sometimes we are really busy  and don’t know how to keep a schedule,  and make time for the important things we must do. Procrastination can be considered a mental illness. It can be linked to a number of negative accusations like depression, irrational behavior, low-self esteem, anxiety, and ADHD. Others can also be affected by this because of relationships with guilt and stress.

Procrastination can affect us in many ways. One way it can affect us is if we don’t finish our work or do what we need to do for school we can get behind and we might not be able to pass our classes and that means that we don’t get our required credits. Procrastinating can have a very big impact on our future. Imagine how many things we could get done if we didn’t procrastinate.

A helpful way to decrease our procrastination habit is to create a routine and reward ourselves for finishing tasks on time.  Instead of procrastinating we should learn how to prioritize. Prioritizing consists of categorizing our tasks and leveling them by importance. Doing the most important things or jobs rather than focusing on the least important task.  A good way to prioritize is to make a schedule/list and maintaining it. Making a list can be very important and helpful due to the fact that they keep things organized and manageable.

Just remember if you don’t do things when there supposed to be done there’s consequences and when you do things when they are supposed to be done there’s rewards.
